This Week’s Pony News, July 9

A busy sort of a week…

Monday. Had to arrange for our water bowser (a small trailer with a large tank on it), to be repaired as during an inspection, it was found to have a very worn wheel bearing which had started to break up the brake housing; this could have led to a wheel coming off!

Tuesday. We, together with the SWT Old Lodge reserve volunteers who are essential, rounded up the 12 ponies and drove them across the lane to a smaller part of this heathland reserve. All did not go to the usual efficient routine, with 5 crossing the lane and the other 7 deciding to do a circuit of the 90 acre reserve. In all, it took two hours instead of one. Following this we picked up the livestock trailer and with help from Judy and Peter, we gathered the three ponies from off the Palesgate Lane site nr Crowborough and took them to boost numbers on the RSPB’s Broadwater reserve.

Wednesday. Negotiations regarding BBC’s Countryfile coming to film some of our ponies later this month, subject to agreeing a location fee with the landowner. We’ve done all we can, so its now down to others. This would be a major publicity scoop if it takes place…
